The paper focuses on the description and analysis of social competencies and self-efficacy in university students. The research participants were 210 university students (68.6 % were male) with a mean age of 22.7 years. The research was conducted in two countries: Slovakia (N = 102) and Czech Republic (N = 106). Decision making competencies belong to a broad group of general competencies. Relationships between decision making competencies and maximization tendency were investigated in a sample of 118 high school students.
