Arad County is located in the western part of Romania, within the DKMT cross-border area. The National Archaeological Record of Romania lists 246 historic sites in this area, most of which are found in villages. Only few of these monuments are valorized as landmarks. Rural monuments are not advertised and have no proper monument protection. Local communities do not have the means, the awareness or the genuine interest to preserve them.
