The review of the painting The Flight into Egypt by the Brazilian artist Almeida Jr, takes into account its relationship with works of religious themes, most of them of idealistic and neoclassical inspiration that typically existed in the Brazilian Fine Arts Imperial Academy, and were performed by the artist between 1869 and 1874; it also considers the influence of European artworks of non-religious themes, from Renaissance to Baroque and from Realism to Impressionism.
