Abstract

This paper takes up the topic of the literature’s communicative dimension and it aims at describing and analyzing the communication patterns involved by the act of reading. The main target of our enterprise is the analysis of the literature’s basic conventions regarding its social-communicative scales. These conventions are settled on three different interactive levels: the rapport between reader and author (which duplicates, on a different scale, the interactive play specific to interpersonal communication), the rapport between reader and text (subordinated to human beings’ activity and symbolical competence) and the rapport between reader and interpretative communities (subordinated to the social dynamics of human existence). Our paper extends a new look at the reading performance, different from abstract-theoretical approaches and from empiric sociological studies as well, because the last ones do not take into account the real dynamics of reading literature, which is a particular human practice, determined by various emergence contexts and, at the same time, conditioned by its sui-generis social-communicative dimension.
