BIG FIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTING THE STUDENTВ’S ACADEMIC SUCCESS
Abstract
Knowing the abilities and the personality traits which affect the academic success we could be able to intervene, helping students to achieve better grades. The purpose of our research consists in exploring and identifying personality traits which reflect significantly upon academic performance (the marks registered by the students). Personality refers to the organized psychophysical systems (within the individual) which determine specific behavior and thinking. The Five Factor Model (FFM) was investigated. The instrument used to explore the Big Five personality traits was the CP5F Questionnaire, belonging to the psychological tests platform CAS++ (elaborated by Cognitrom). The Five Factor Personality Questionnaire (CP5F) evaluates the Big Five superfactors (Extraversion, Conscientiousness, Emotional stability, Autonomy and Agreeableness). The participants were second year students within the National University of Physical Education and Sports Bucharest, aged between 20 and 23 years old. To verify if a personality trait can be considered a good predictor for the academic performance we used the simple linear regression. The results emphasized significant positive correlation between the grades obtained by the students and the T scores registered for the Conscientiousness and Autonomy Scales.
