Abstract

At present, the idea is increasingly gaining ground of an integrated material flow management in entire supply chains in order to achieve maximum synergies. This final state is, however, usually achievable in gradual steps, with the greatest interest in developing cooperation with its suppliers being on the side of links serving the final consumer, i.e. wholesale and retail stores. Their interest in constantly improving their own customer service usually supports efforts to develop cooperation on the basis of modern methods of replenishing goods to retail and wholesale stores, such as Quick Response and CPFR methods (Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment). The level of cooperation of retail stores with their suppliers was the subject of the quantitative research. The main objective of the research was to determine the form of the distribution chain for replenishment of goods to retail stores, methods used for execution of orders of goods and also the success rate of the cooperation with suppliers through determining the sufficient amount of goods in individual retail stores. The research was conducted in the spring of 2015 in 75 retail stores located in the Czech Republic. The research included retail stores with selling areas of different sizes, independent shops as well as stores that are part of retail chains and both over-the-counter stores and self-service stores. Information was collected using a questionnaire during personal visits of a trained interviewer in individual retail stores. The data were processed by means of the statistical software IBM SPSS Statistics. In the data processing, procedures of descriptive and inferential (inductive) statistics were mainly used. The basic findings of the research include that the retail stores where the research took place: • cooperate in replenishing most commonly directly with manufacturers of food products or replenish products from its own distribution centres, • often have long term contracts with suppliers and • most commonly order different amounts of individual items, yet periodically, while at large stores there also appears automatic replenishment of goods without a prior order. Cooperation of the retail stores surveyed with suppliers, however, has certain shortcomings, which is reflected by the fact there is a lack of various items of goods in the retail stores surveyed. Therefore, it seems appropriate to carry out further follow-up research aimed at improving the possibilities of cooperation of retail stores with their suppliers.
