Abstract

Mindfulness has been successfully practiced for over 2,500 years with the goal to “quiet the mind’s constant chattering: thoughts, anxieties, and regrets” [14]. Organizational mindfulness refers to a combination of observation of existing expectations and willingness to invent new expectations, and identification of new possible dimensions with aim to improve foresight and current functioning of the organization, in addition to swiftly act in response to emerging threats [15]. According to Jacqueline Carte [3], mindfulness is a necessary tool to any organization that is willing to “survive, thrive, and excel”. The organizational effectiveness benefits of mindfulness programs are the key factor. Organizational mindfulness includes regular discussions of possible threats to reliability and developing the understanding of the context by periodically questioning the adequacy of existing assumptions and considering reliable alternatives. Author’s research on the subject reviews the experience and situation in Latvia. Latvian companies have employee motivation and education systems, there are health insurance, management is willing to invest in their employees and understand that they are the most important resource to the company. For the author, it was interesting study to explore the current situation, to research if personnel management is using mindfulness “tools”, have a sufficient understanding of its benefits, or have studied the world experience, as well as to promote it in Latvia.
