MULTI-WORD FORMATION IN THE SPECIFIC TERMINOLOGY OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Abstract

Changes related to the development of society are gradually reflected in language, primarily in its vocabulary. Vocabulary of a particular national language is not constant but it changes continuously – words, which are not used or are obsolete, are replaced by new words – terms – which are necessary to determine, designate and express precisely new objects and concepts of extralinguistic reality. New words are most commonly formed as denominations for new concepts and objects characteristic for particular branches of science, technology and production. These all count for the area of Human Resource Management which presents one of the most important sections within the enterprise management. Therefore, it is possible to state that the terminology belongs to one of the most important and significant means of enriching vocabulary of a particular national language. In every language there exist different ways of enriching subject specific vocabulary, which differ in their importance and measure of productivity. New words in terminology are formed, for example, by means of derivation, compounding, conversion, etc. The paper points to the heterogeneity concerning the use of terms for the concept of “human resource management” in Spanish. It also presents the analysis of the internal structure of multi-word units, which belong to the most productive ways of the formation of specific Spanish terminology of Human Resource Management.
