CHASING LOST TIME. THE RECENTLY BUILT MUSEUMS OF CRACOW.
Abstract
Cracow is a city with the ambition of being the cultural capital of Poland. If we consider that museums are the architectural barometer of our time - the period before the political changes of 1989 can be considered lost for Cracow. In the years between 1937 and 1994 not a single museum had been built, as they were set up within existing historical buildings that were nationalised by the state. Meanwhile, the end of the twentieth century in Europe and around the world was the golden age of museums. Thousands of these buildings have been built, giving rise to new trends in architecture. After the Polish accession to the European Union in 2004, the golden age has also reached Cracow. Several new museums have been built in recent years. Have they become the city's icons?
