ON SOME CONCEPTS' INTERRELATION IN MODERN ENGLISH FEMALE FICTION
Abstract
The notion of concept is currently widely used in linguistics (cognitive and psycholinguistics, theory of intercultural communication and sociolinguistics, etc). We ventured to investigate the ways the concepts downshifting, travelling, space and time are interpreted in the modern British fiction created by the female authors. At first, these concepts might seem incompatible and even antagonistic (belonging to either emotional sphere, to the abstract or philosophical stratums), but still their investigation in the very aspect that was suggested by the authors proves to be fruitful in terms of establishing and proving the contextual, denotative and emotive unity of the present day fiction created by the women authors. Having unique and original individual styles of writing, the authors, however, demonstrate similar logically structured and contextually predetermined ways of verbalization of the abovementioned concepts. We analyzed the bulk of linguistic means belonging to various language levels (from phonetic, through lexical up to syntactic ones) employed by E. Gilbert, S. Kinsella, K. Swan, C. Ahern and came to the conclusion that there is certainly high investigatory potential in structuring them in a cluster that turns out to be much emotionally marked.
