Abstract

The foreign studentsВ’ phonetical and graphical adaptation to Romanian is extremely difficult given they belong to some phonetical and phonological systems sometimes totally different from the Latin one, to which Romanian also belongs. The difficulty of adaptation resides not only at the writing level but also at the pronunciation one, uneasy for those who belong to Slavic, Arabian or Asian languages with an obvious differentiation on all language levels. Still, one must notice that due to the knowledge of English, turned into transition language in the process of teaching Romanian as a foreign language, or better French or Italian, the phonetical and orthographical system becomes easier to understand and to assimilate by the foreign Romanian speakers.
