Abstract

The results of a comparative study of preferences in coping strategies are presented, as well as their connections with the characteristics of the frustration of four groups of Russian urban student youth - students of the senior classes of the secondary school, students of the construction college, psychology students and working young men and women who receive further education in the field of "Psychology". The relevance of studying the stated topic is explained. We used the methods of survey, testing ("Ways of coping" questionnaire by R. Lazarus and S. Folkman; Social frustration state questionnaire by L.I. Wasserman, B.V. Iovleva, M.A. Berebina; Q4 factor "Relaxation – tension” of 16PF-test by R. Cattell) and mathematical statistics as methodological tools. The preferred coping strategies in each of the surveyed groups of respondents (confrontational coping for high school students, self-control and acceptance of responsibility for college students, search for social support for psychology students and positive reassessment for working young people) have been identified and analyzed. It is empirically established that the interrelation between preferred coping strategies and frustration in different groups of Russian urban student youth is characterized by specific features. The conclusion is made about the efficiency of coping strategy "Self-control" in various difficult situations in the life of student youth, inefficiency of "Escape-avoidance" strategy and ambiguity of "Confrontation" strategy. The obtained results are recommended for use in practical correctional work aimed at reducing the frustration of youth due to the expansion of the arsenal of coping strategies used by them that are adequate to emerging life situations.
