TYPE AND DIRECTION OF REACTION IN CONFLICT SITUATION AMONG RUSSIANS AND ARMENIANS WITH DIFFERENT GENDER IDENTITY

Abstract

The purpose: a comparative study of the type and direction of reaction in conflict situation among masculine men and feminine women of Russian and Armenian nationalities. Design: kind of gender identity and ethno-cultural characteristics may condition differences in types and directions of reaction in conflict situation among both men and women of Russian and Armenian nationalities. The technique: 1. Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration Study which is aimed at identifying the type of reaction to the conflict situation and ways out of it. 2. Sandra Bem Inventory, aimed at identifying the gender identity of the individual. Participants: 50 men with masculine gender identity (25 Russian and 25 Armenian men), 50 women with feminine gender identity (25 Russian and 25 Armenian women), aged from 18 to 28. Results: Significant differences were obtained for men of Russian and Armenian nationalities with masculine identity according to Mann-Whitney U test: 1) need-persistence type of reaction (p<0,013446). Need-persistence type of reaction has higher indicators for men of Russian nationality than for men of Armenian nationality; 2) extraggressive kind of reaction (p<0,048281). For men of Armenian nationality this kind of reaction has higher indicators than for men of Russian nationality. Significant differences were obtained for women of Russian and Armenian nationalities with feminine identity according to Mann-Whitney test: intraggressive kind of reaction direction (p<0,049142). This kind of reaction direction has higher indicators for women of Russian nationality than for women of Armenian nationality. Trend: Type and kind of reaction in conflict situations are more associated with ethno-cultural identity, not the type of gender identity.
