LIFE-SENSE STRATEGIES OF A PERSON AS A BASIS FOR PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY IN INFORMATION SPACE
Abstract
Today information space is a natural human life environment. Almost unlimited technical capability of modern interactive gadgets allows people to become co-authors or even creators of their own virtual reality. General availability of personal data makes it possible to interfere in other people’s private lives, forming their values and sense attitudes. So, the problem of psychological safety of a person in information space has become of vital importance. As a theoretical ground of the research we use such concepts as meaning of life and existential meaning, need for self-actualization, self-efficacy, trait theory, activity theory, life attitudes, sources of meaning, conceptions of meaning, dynamic meaning system, sense structures, sense-creation, etc. According to the psychology of sense, life-sense strategy of a person is based on the hierarchical system of sense-value sphere of the person, includes the locus of control and shows itself in the person’s attitudes to the past, present and future periods of the life. In this context the life-sense strategies of a person can form a basis for the psychological safety in information space. The empirical research includes: Rokeach Value Survey, Purpose-in-Life Test, Diagnostics of tendency to 13 types of dependences (by G.V. Lozovaya). To study the influence of modern mass media on psychological safety of a person we also use “Social distance of telecontents of an ideological orientation” technique (by I.V. Abakumova, Zh.Ju. Kara, L.Ju. Kruteleva, in the course of development) and a standardised interview (in the form of a specially developed questionnaire), which takes into consideration the structure and forms of transmitting of different kinds of information, time-tables of telecasting of central TV channels, the contents of theses telecasts, the contents of the sites and amount of time spent on the media, etc. The data analysis consists of methods of qualitative analysis, descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney Test. The empirical object includes 60 senior pupils of a comprehensive school aged from 15 till 18. According to susceptibility to influence of different kinds of mass media all respondents have been divided into two equal groups with a low and a high level of psychological safety. Life comprehension is significantly higher in the group with a high level of psychological safety. Keeping under control their own lives, these respondents more carefully consider, plan and structure their prospects for the future. The group with a low level of psychological safety directs at the past period of their lives and has fewer purposes in the future.
