Last decades are characterized by an appeal to the text as a way of understanding the person, his aspirations, logic of thinking, value orientations. In this context, the study of the folklore texts, including a people's will, are seem to be extremely valuable. The resistance to its shape and lexical composition, as the content of the small genre is transmitted from generation to generation, respecting the original vocabulary and syntagmatics. The subject of this article is the names of air masses in the Russian and Tatar folk omens. The analysis of the syntagmatic features of the selected lexemes allows us to trace the key characteristics of air masses, which attracted people since ancient times. This position is put forward in view of the fact that according to the signs were constructed of weather forecasts. It is established that the core position is a lexeme wind (in Russian folk belief) . The key characteristics of the wind is a place of origin ( Southern, Western, Northern). Sometimes this feature is carried through a combination of noun +noun (wind from South, wind from West). It is discovered that there are special names to denote the spatial orientation of the wind: severyak, teplyak, plaksun, plakun etc.
