Abstract

The aim of this article is to present descriptive geometry, which quickly reached the Polish lands. First lecture was held at the Warsaw School of Artillery and Engineering in 1809-1812, by a French teacher Jan Joachim Livet (1809-12). The new discipline was quickly adopted in all major centers of Polish science at that time, which include university cities - Warsaw, Krakow, Vilnius and the Krzemieniec Lyceum, which represent high level of teaching. In each of the existing universities, efforts were made to create a department of the new discipline - descriptive geometry and to fill it with an appropriate candidate. Unfortunately, the political situation interrupted the development of the newly introduced discipline as well as other others. Nowadays, the rapid development of computer techniques and the use of a digital record in technical documentation resulted in a further reduction or complete elimination of descriptive geometry in technical teaching. However, it must be remembered that its role in developing spatial imagination and developing spatial solutions strategies is still valid. A new paradigm should be found in the technical education of the architect, using the latest technologies and without losing the universal values developed by the Lviv school of descriptive geometry.
