LINGUOPOLITICAL PERSONOLOGY AS A RESEARCH FIELD OF MODERN HUMAN SCIENCE
Abstract
Linguopolitical personology is a relatively new field of Russian linguistics, which focuses on the phenomenon of professional linguistic personality in the political sphere. This research discipline helps reveal new facets of homo loquens and contributes to political communication studies, enabling to highlight its discursive and national specificity. The present article reports the results of an analytical review of recent papers on politicians' speech behavior. The objective of the review was to specify basic terminology, which is in use, and to dwell upon the main aspects of analysis and leading methodological approaches of modern linguopolitical personology. As the review showed, the most relevant terms for the considered scientific field are linguistic personality of a politician and speech portrait, the former being the key notion of the theory of linguistic personality and the latter being a traditional term of sociolinguistics. The choice of the term is to a great extent conditioned by the goals of the specific research and the author's methodological focus. As to the aspects of analysis and methods of study, the conducted review enabled us to classify all the variety of papers into a few groups: 1) cognitive study of politicians' verbal behavior; 2) linguopragmatic and linguostylistic study; 3) rhetoric approach; 4) acoustic analysis of politicians' speech (rhythm, intonation, pausation, etc); 5) psycho-linguistic analysis; 6) linguosemiotic analysis. There are also corpus studies, which have recently gained a considerable popularity.
