PECULIARITIES OF ARCHITECTURE OF MEDIEVAL ONE-APSIDAL HALL TEMPLES IN ABKHAZIA (REVISITING THE DATING)

Abstract

Features of architecture of Abkhazian medieval one-apsidal hall temples are presented in this article. A small one-nave church is easy to build and it was important in the conditions of a need for fast and universal construction of temples. It is a reflection of local architectural preferences and the construction equipment as the local masters could build such temples, not owning difficult technologies of arch building. Besides, by means of a gradual extension of additional rooms the one-apsidal church was easy to be adapted for the changing requirements of the church service differing in local features. New data on objects in the village of Anukhva is introduced for scientific use. Dating of temples of the VI-XI centuries is specified. Processes of cultural influences and loans are designated. The detailed analysis of analogs (on architecture, decor and the construction equipment) in the territory of Byzantium, the Caucasian Albania, Georgia, Antioch is carried out. Results of architectural digital inspections, the analysis of a construction stratigraphy of solutions, researches of analogs are shown, regional historical processes of introduction of samples on the basis of which dating and attribution of monuments are revealed.
