Abstract

The article researches the question of extralinguistic factors and the role they play in the development and functioning in the ancient Russian language. This research presents special importance and significance when studying original pieces of art of the ancient Russian literature and chronicles as well. In the article language characteristics of the “The Tale of Bygone Years” and “The Novgorod First Chronicle” are compared. The choice of language means such as lexical, word building and syntactical ones and peculiarities of text organization have been defined by the place where the texts are from, by the events happening at that time. We used cognitive and linguocuturological methods when analyzing the sources. These methods allow to comprehend language phenomena in the light of a person’s conscious, taking into account ethnocultural peculiarities of the Russian people. Semasiological method in combination with onomasiological one has been used for the purpose of the derivative analysis. As a result the nature of the impact extralinguictic and introlinguistic factors performed has been revealed in connection with chronicles. We discovered the role of the religious consciousness, middle ages world view, dualism in reality perception; we compared the language of two ancient Russian manuscripts in connection with the word-building methods usage.
