ARABIC VERBS OF CONVENTIONAL AND UNCONVENTIONAL ROOT: SEMANTICS AND GRAMMAR POTENTIAL

Abstract

The present study is devoted to those Arabic verbs whose roots are not traditional for Arabian morphology by three-part ones, but have either one more consonant or one less consonant in the root. Together with their few derivatives, they form an obvious vocabulary minority, but this is only quantitative, since it is an inalienable, frequency, replenished and most expressive lexical layer of modern Arabic. Quite the contrary, it is of great research interest to consider verbs with such roots from the point of view of their authenticity / borrowing in Arabic, and in this connection the historical possibility of their derivation from words with a traditional three-root root for Arabic. The works of both medieval Arab grammars (in particular, the brightest representative of the philological school of Ahmad Ibn Faris) and modern European Arabists, like Henry Fleisch are devoted to this issue. A multidimensional analysis of these verbs allows one to draw conclusions about their specificity as a semantic one, namely, belonging only to certain lexical-semantic fields, and grammatical, in particular, the limitation of their word-building potential and the set of morphological categories inherent in them. In addition, these verbs clearly demonstrate such a feature of the Arabic language as the adaptation of the morphology of foreign and non-standard words to the rules of the Arabic language with their organic adherence to the Arabic models of inflection and word formation.
