Abstract

This study explores an important problem in public administration services, namely digitalize public administration or E-government. In the present paper we aim at analyzing the relationship between E-government and the level of corruption, measured by the Corruption Perceptions Index. At the international and European level, a series of indicators such as EGDI or DESI are used to measure the degree of digitization of a country. We have achieved a statistical analysis regarding the existing correlation between e-governance and the CPI and found the existence of a strong indirect relationship. The digitization of public services leads in the majority of cases to the decrease of corruption, as well as to increasing the quality of life of citizens and a better collection of public revenues in the case of digitalization of payments. Thus, all states should be interested in digitizing acceleration and e-government as a way to increase the quality of services offered to citizens, but also to reduce bureaucracy and corruption.
