AN EXPLORATORY STUDY ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF WORKING FROM HOME IN THE CORPORATE ENVIRONMENT
Abstract
Working from home (with several term variations: home-based work, homeworker, telecommuting) has become a major trend in recent years and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This topic is extremely relevant and interesting for both the corporate world and society, capturing the attention of many researchers. This paper provides more details on the transformations in communication and the importance of new digital tools and technologies that have become indispensable for corporate success in this new working paradigm. In this paper, the main objective is to identify the changes that have occurred with the emergence of working from home, which has become a new lifestyle for corporations, as a new necessity to adapt to rapid change. Through exploratory research using structured interviews with the employees of a Romanian corporation, we will assess the impact on employee productivity, specifically whether with the advent of the pandemic it has increased or, conversely, decreased. Information will be presented about the methodology used and objectives of the research which aims to identify how changes brought by working from home have influenced employee productivity and performance in the corporate environment. Findings show that even though employees find more concentration at home, at the same time they struggle to maintain work-life balance and face higher levels of burnout.
