ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION AND MULTICULTURALISM ON THE EXAMPLE OF ROMA MINORITY

Abstract

Article relates to the issue of alternative education and multiculturalism on the example of Roma minority. The author raises a topics of theoretical approach and concept of cultural identity, which is understood as the most important kind of collective identity, which is historically conditioned, cultural method of behavior by a given human collectivity. In considerations in accordance with modern concepts of sociological assumed that identity is not a state but a process. The following sections of the article presents subjects related to: the right to learn and respect the cultural identity of children, education of ethnic minorities in the context of multicultural and alternative education opportunities and threats. In the article are presented issues of stereotypes and prejudices in the context of children. There is raised the issue related to the possibility of employing Roma assistants at and cultural assistants. Polish legal acts concerning the education system are addressed to national and ethnic minorities, as well as to the communities using the regional language. The European Parliament, in its resolution of 2009 on multilingualism, stresses the importance of the languages of national and ethnic minorities used in Europe. This issue was also undertaken by the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages of 2003, which was signed and adopted by the Republic of Poland.In the text are given data on Roma groups living in Poland, their numbers as well as description of history and culture of the Roma. There are information of issues of stereotypes and prejudices. In the publication are shown the causes and effects of treatment of Roma children like migrants and not as full citizens of Poland and security threats which are results of this. In the article are touched very important issues regarding the safety of all citizens on the same terms, regardless of their ethnicity. There are indicated mistakes in the context minority of the example of the Roma minority. Article is also an extensive analysis of the situation of children of Roma ethnicity in educational establishments.
