THE TIMBER ARCHITECTURAL HERITAGE OF THE BORDERLANDS TODAY
Abstract
The timber architecture trails of the borderlands and the inclusion of the preserved Orthodox and Catholic churches, as well as unique timber synagogues on the UNESCO World Heritage Site List has contributed to the development of cultural tourism in Poland and in the neighboring countries. Open-air museums have been established around these timber structures and their staff have started to seek new ways of advertising their exhibitions through marketing. The aim of their management is to increase the popularity of their current exhibitions with tourists. The museums of the micro-region, as well as the many collections of both public and private owners provide good conditions for the exhibition of paintings, icons, sculptures and other works of folk art. The revitalization of historical buildings is being conducted under the supervision of historical monuments conservation authorities. The cultural legacy of the region, if properly exhibited, could tap into the marketing potential of the multicultural native tradition, which is so characteristic of the Polish, Slovak, Ukrainian and Hungarian Galicia and the borderlands. The important role of medium-sized towns [1] is obviously important to this process. It is in these towns that the most valuable artifacts of the art of the region can be found, such as icons, paintings, rare books and artistic handicraft.
