Abstract

The article presents characteristic features of this type of buildings on the example of old and modern Orthodox churches of the borderland area. Their ideological message and spatial and functional shape are revealed in comparison with the traditional archaeological and symbolic structures of Orthodox churches that are considered canonical. They are also evaluated in terms of their liturgical servitude. The newly created temples, using traditional spatial and liturgical arrangements and at the same time the convention of innovative, sculptural and tectonic modelling, renovate and reinterpret the tradition of this type of building.
