Abstract

The region of Latgale historically has existed as a multicultural region, where one of the most important spheres is connected to the Jewish culture and history. Members of other ethnic groups form their own system of views about the world of Jews, with positive or negative connotations, based mostly on stereotypes. Historically these views transform, leaving behind traces in the world view. The aim of the paper is to research one of the linguistic world view spheres of Latgale inhabitants that is connected to the Jewish and the perception of the Jewish culture (defined as the Jewish). The basis for the research is the free associative experiment based on material in Latvian and Russian languages. The participants of the experiment – youth of Daugavpils, pedagogues and seniors. The basis of the associative experiment – fixations on the first answer. In the result of the experiment were classified some thematic groups, which represent needed ethnic variations. During the process of the experiment the education and level of eruditeness, linked to the understanding of the Jewish culture was taken into account. In the additional methodology of the research the content analysis of mass media was used with aim to determine the structure of the linguacultural media and its influence on the shaping of the system of values of inhabitants. With the help of experimenting, directly organizing associative experiments and, based on their results, forming the associative web, determining the characteristic system of stereotypes in the society, that has an essential place in the ethnic stereotypes.
