ECODESIGN VARIANTS OF THE STEAM TURBINE DIAPHRAGMS

Abstract

Ecodesign of steam turbine elements can contribute to reducing the environmental impact of traditional power generation systems. The article identifies and analyzes environmental parameters in the life cycle of the steam turbine diaphragms. The identification of ecodesign variants, as part of conceptual design, creates the opportunity to choose optimal life cycle parameters related to minimization of material and energy consumption, as well as waste reducing. At the stage of conceptual design, three design solutions were specified which are variants of diaphragms construction: monolith diaphragm, half-monolith diaphragm, and welded diaphragm. On the basis of the technical parameters of the diaphragms, the environmental analysis of variants was conducted. An environmental analysis was carried out using the life cycle assessment methodology. Its purpose is to indicate the most beneficial solution in terms of the impact on the environment. The conducted analysis provides the possible directions of design works in industrial practice, taking into account environmental aspects.
