THE TRANSFORMATIVE PARADIGM IN CONTEMPORARY PSYCHOTHERAPY
Abstract
It is frequently stated that the present times relate to the spirit of Apocalypse. In psychological terms, the meaning of the statement underlines dynamic patterns, with intentionality and a complex interdependency. Apocalypse means revelation and intricate processes of evaluation, destruction and rising of a new order, towards a new meaning of human lives. In sciences, new researches bring out new perspectives upon energy and matter, medical interventions are reoriented by the genetics and epigenetics, the cybernetics will have a new place in the human life, and the interstellar travels seems to be sustained by string theory potentials. The paper explores the adequacy of current paradigms in counselling and psychotherapy and the role of psychotherapist. We submit and promote the idea that the old paradigm of the therapist as a container and clarifying figure for patient, as mother and father figure, should be replaced by a new function. The disrupted energies of the man must be used for building a resilient and transforming attitude. With these unhealed energies of the personal trauma, we should sustain in our patients new transforming features as: To be able to confront the new reality and have a flexible perspective, to accept the challenge and use imagination to develop new skills, to be creative and to anticipate. We explore the transformative HermesВ’ energies as resources for the psychotherapistВ’s role as it works in our patients (case study).
