LINKING HEALTH WITH EDUCATION IN THE EUROPEAN UNION
Abstract
Health concepts are dealt with by a multitude of professionals: presenting, analyzing, systematizing, debating, adding new and meaningful elements and then re-analyzing, debating and systematizing them [9]. There are few basic concepts like health that most people define as very simple, but experts beliefs this issue are very complex and multi-dimensional. The European Union's White Paper sets out important strategies for school health promotion, which provides as a guideline for Member States. In addition to the curriculum, this document proposes the analysis and modification of teaching methods, advises the establishment of links with local health care institutions that are able to develop complex health programs in schools. Our paper tries to serve as a mirror inside the European Union, as its purpose is to summarize the different experiences on health education in the member states. The introduction of European programs on healthy lifestyles is considered a success in our country, but we argue that this is not enough. There is a need also for national and local programs that might be placed in the frame of the formal education.
