EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND ADAPTATION OF FOREIGN STUDENTS
Abstract
The article describes results of the research that revealed correlation between emotional intelligence and adaptation in the group of foreign students RUDN University. The text describes actuality and the importance of study the subject of adaptation in the not native culture in psychological science. Also the article describes the actuality of theme of emotional intelligence and touches upon the question about current research trends in this context. The main individually determinants of emotional intelligence, adaptation and acculturation were marked in the text. The methodological basis of the research include BerryВ’s theory about acculturation in not native culture; conception of emotional intelligence as the ability to understand and manage self emotions and emotions of other people. In particular, through the survey method, were used methods to identify the specifics of acculturation (John W. BerryВ’s model), test of L. V. Yankovsky В«Personality adaptation to social-cultural environmentВ», questionnaire of emotional intelligence (D.V.Lyusin). The main goal of this investigation is to explore the specificity of foreign studentВ’s emotional intelligence and adaptation in the university environment. Also it was important to determine which components of emotional intelligence links with acculturation and adaptation components. The specificity of the data obtained can be useful for building up practical work not only for psychologists, but also for university staff and for all those who potentially interact with foreign students.
