Abstract

The perceptive image of a concept, according to I. A. Sternin, reflects both the way a concept is perceived by an individual with any of the five senses and the result of such perception. It appears that with regard to the concept “Body” the results of perception are objectified somewhat differently than the results of perception of other concepts. This is due to the fact that the body in this case is perceived (as an object of perception) and perceives (with the organs of perception) at the same time. Thus, we consider the emotive aspect a significant component of the perceptive image of the concept ‘Body’ in our analysis of the body/emotions interrelation. Two types of relation can be identified within the emotive aspect: a) the body responds to one’s emotions, b) the body is the source of one’s emotions. Among the emotions, the highest objectivation occurs with regard to the emotion of fear, which can be expressed through such lexical units as terreur (terror), crainte (fear), horreur (horror), craindre (to fear), terroriser (terrorize), etc. The emotion of fear belongs to the core of the perceptive image of the concept ‘Body’ in both types of relation within the emotive aspect.
