DESIGN PRINCIPLES FOR TYPOGRAPHIC POSTERS: TRIZ-BASED APPROACH TO GENERATE NEW IDEAS
Abstract
TRIZ (the theory of inventive problem solving) is an approach to generate creative solutions for problem solving, it was developed by Genrich Altshuller since 1946. Primarily he creates this theory for technical systems and problems, but then other authors use the same approach to develop theory that you can apply to advertising, public relations etc. One of the instruments in Classical TRIZ is a set of inventive principles that help to create solutions for the problem. This instrument transforms the process of finding of a new idea from traditional trial-and-error approach to systematic search of the creative solutions. This paper discusses the TRIZ approach to problem solving for generating creative solutions, describes the design principles identified on the basis of the TRIZ approach and how you can apply these principles for generating new ideas for the posters, especially for typographic ones. Identified principles can also be applied not only for posters but for other media to some extent.
