ADOPTION OF DISCRIMINATORY BEHAVIOR TOWARDS WOMEN WITH DIFFERENT ETHNO-RELIGIOUS APPEARANCE

Abstract

This paper considers the aspect of adopting discriminatory behavior towards women with different ethno-religious design of the external appearance. An empirical study is presented, with the object of 807 people: 436 women and 371 men, aged 18 to 35 years. Respondents were offered a set of photographs of girls in hijab and without it (5 pairs of photographs). Three situations were proposed for each photo from the "Assessment of Acceptance of Discriminating Behavior towards Ethnic Groups" methodology, proposed by V.A., Labunskaja, A.A. Bzezyan: "Rendering services", "Joint living", "Walking around the city". As a result of the empirical study, conclusions are drawn that there are significant differences in the adoption of discriminatory behavior towards and without girls in hijab. Thus, if the object of discrimination is a girl in the hijab, the respondents rather agree with the fact of discrimination. The results indicate that the presence of the hijab is the trigger mechanism for accepting the situation of discrimination.
