EDUCATIONAL POLICIES TOWARDS TEACHERSВ’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN SLOVAKIA FROM A SCHOOL-HISTORICAL, POLITICAL AND VOCATIONAL BACKGROUND
Abstract
Teachers as a massive professional social group providing services in the public interest are the subject of educational policies at both European and national levels. These educational policies show a high level of diversity and identify optimal systemic intervention tools to support the professional development of teachers. Educational policies in Slovakia show specific approaches toward teachers arising from school-historical, political and vocational origins. Analysis of these aspects and their impact on the creation and enforcement of educational policies in teaching practice is the subject of this scientific research. Educational policies are applied across diverse dimensions of the teaching job (teaching preparation, social security, wages, working conditions, quality of legislation adapting career progress etc.) From the perspective of European policies, support for lifelong career progress in teaching is gaining more and more importance (in individuals as well as in schools and organisations). This paper is a partial output of the scientific project SRDA-16-0573 The implementation of the model of andragogical consulting in the context of the teachersВ’ professionalization, which analyses the current situation of educational policy in Slovakia and provides recommendations for policy creators and experts in this area of science and research.
