UNDERSTANDING OF EXTREMIST EXPRESSIONS AT THE LEVEL OF HIGHER EDUCATION IN SLOVAKIA
Abstract
The study and research of extremism is extremely topical. Extremism touches every country. Increasingly, it also appears between intelligent populations or directly at universities. This theme deserves its space because it is Europe's modern geopolitical problem. The article consists of two parts. One part is theoretical and the other part is practical. The theoretical part was devoted to classical definitions such as: extremism, radicalism, but also political extremism and the resulting right-wing extremism and left-wing extremism. The theoretical part of the article is focused on the representation of the far right and the extreme left, legal and illegal political parties and political movements operating in Slovakia. Research is focused on the student community and their engagement and understanding of extremism in terms of political ideas and extremism among all social strata of the population. The study of extremism among university students was carried out in two forms. In each region of Slovakia in the university, a separate discussion was held on the issue of extremism and its perceptions among citizens. The students also received a short questionnaire in which they chose their stance on topics that are closely related to extremist behavior. The research was carried out through the "Structured Dialogue" project, involving the Student Board of Higher Education (member of ESU). The author of the article as a discussion moderator has conducted research. There is a direct opportunity to meet college students in their own space in individual cities. The main objective is to deepen the knowledge of an area that was not so powerful and did not pay attention to it a few years ago. It was precisely this fact that could bring results in the elections, which also the individual parties or their sympathizers (the extreme right in the case of Slovakia) achieved in the elections to the National Council of the Slovak Republic.
