Abstract

The present study deals with the concept of multimedia, discussed in the context of convergence, which appears to be a mass communications trend. The purpose of the article is to consider the specifics of convergence in terms of merging information channels and platforms for placing a multimedia product, as well as to review the issues of the interrelation between the verbal and non-verbal aspects of communication. The author convincingly indicates that multimedia is a key characteristic of the media convergence, and it is also integral to the language convergence, as it combines both verbal and visual languages of communication. The theoretical basis of the study is represented by works grouped into four groups: works on media convergence as the process of development of modern media; works devoted to modern online journalism; studies reflecting the trend of information visualization and the specifics of multimedia journalism; publications of authors considering the phenomenon of multimedia longrids. To perform the study, the author uses a set of methods - the method of system analysis, the method of content analysis and others. The methodology used made it possible to study in detail the empirical material and realize the purpose of the research.
