ARCHITECTURAL METAPHOR

Abstract

The architectural metaphors transform the built environment into a symbolic poetical framework with a strong identity. They are the richest semantic means of architectural communication, superior creative methods of transmitting architectural concepts, being characterized by originality and novelty. Generated by unusual shapes and unique combinations of architectural language elements, they got enclose a high power of evocation and stimulate very diverse interpretations. Their suggestive power is valued in contemporary architecture for enhancing identity and cultural specificity or for expressing strong historical and political symbols. In verbal language of architectural and urbanism theory there are many metaphorical expressions which synthesise concepts and visions from various artistic trends and tendencies.
