THE EDUCATION OF A PROFESSION – THE ROMANIAN PROFILE OF SOCIAL WORK
Abstract
The education of the social work and the recent history of the profession are approaching the 25th anniversary in Romania. The aim of the present paper is to offer a comprehensive review of the social worker profession in Romania. Although it describes the major milestones of the profession, it also points out the different problems the profession is confronting. The analysis incorporates three areas: educational, legal and societal. The paper concludes that despite of the experience accumulated, the education of social work and also the profession itself still meets major challenges. Beyond an effective collaboration among involved institutions those challenges need mostly a clear strategy and vision.
