THE TRANSLATION FEATURES OF A LITERARY TEXT BASED ON THE YAKUT SHORT STORY 'BALYKSYT' (ITS TRANSLATION IN FRENCH)
Abstract
The article is devoted to the analysis of translation of Yakut story "Balyksyt" into French. On the one hand, is considered translation problems, in particular, methods of transfer for adequate translation. On the other hand - the practical experience of the translator to transfer of culture and language generalizing in a text form. Translation process means text transformation from one language into a text equivalent in another language. Yakut and French languages and cultures are independent from one another, they belong to different genealogical branches, the first - to Turkic, the second – to Romance group of languages. Lacunas, cultural concepts or realias represent certain difficulties to translator. Due to semantics specificity of Yakut texts, it is particularly difficult to translate figurative words, which are widely used in the works of art. On account of such lexical items, the text enjoys the expressional figurative effect and a rich word picture making emotional impact on recipient. For adequate translation and keeping national identity, the translator uses transliteration, literal, descriptive and transformation translation methods. On the basis of the analysis of the translation of the text, and also attraction of classification of methods of transfer (Barkhudarov L.S.) is established that the translator at the description of life and utensils of the main character, resorts to a transcription, keeping color of national culture. In some cases, the transliteration, providing national identity, is not always supported by necessary comments, which resulted in semantic and national identity loss. The translation of figurative words by means of omitting and descriptive translation also claims special attention. The comparative analysis between the original in Yakut and the translated text in French shows that the pragmatic aspect of text translation is observed. Firstly, it can be explained as translator’s ability to transfer the author's intention to readers of other cultures. Secondly, the presence of lacunas obviously shows that compared languages and cultures belong to absolutely different linguistic branches and families according to genealogy. Nevertheless, N. Gavriliev attempt to transfer author's intention to other culture readers was successful. Thus, on the example of the analysis of one translated text it is difficult to draw conclusions concerning a translation technique. Debatable continues to remain the question by a translation technique in general, in particular, from Yakut into French on what general canons it is necessary to make a transfer or nevertheless the translation remains the phenomenon of creative character.
