PECULIARITIES OF UNDERSTANDING THE SUBJECT OF APOCALYPSE IN Y. VOZNESENSKAYAВ’S DILOGY
Abstract
The novels of Yulia Voznesenskaya Cassandra's Path or Adventures with Macaroni (2002) and Lancelot's Pilgrimage (2003) make up a dilogy. Researchers usually determine its genre as orthodox fantasy. The action takes place during the last years before the Judgement Day, in the era of Antichrist. The author seeks to be a Christian missionary and uses a literary form that is appealing for young readers – first of all, this is an adventure story. The purpose of this paper is to reveal parallels between Y. Voznesenskaya's dilogy and other Russian novellas about apocalypse (V.S. Solovyov, L.A. Tikhomirov), as well as various intertextual links with works of European writers (H.C. Andersen, D. du Maurier, J.R.R. Tolkien, etc.), the writings by Church Fathers and the Bible. The paper shows how the quotes and reminiscences revealed make the content of the novels more profound and impart ontologic importance to the adventurous intrigue. The authors find references to the Bible most apparent.
