Abstract

Recurrent annual regularities of the level of production and sales of hard coal in the Polish market result in the coal companies facing the surplus of production in the, so called, slack season, as well as shortages of coal in the season of increased demand for coal. At present mining companies solve this problem by outsourcing mining workers. However, this is not the most favourable solution because of the negative approach of the mine workers towards this kind of practices. Moreover, planning of employment is currently organised in each individual department independently thus posing the risk of ineffective use of available human resources in the scale of the whole mining company. In the article there is a different solution of this problem presented in such a way that employment planning should be joined into a single whole in order to manage the human resources within the company, and consequently, reduce outsourcing. In order to achieve this aim there has been data base created, with the use of SQL language that contains information about all manual workers available throughout the mining company. Such solution enables directing employees to such a mine where at a certain time horizon there appears the need to increase the number of workers because of bigger production of coal. This way facilitates elimination of simultaneous waste of human resources at such coal mines where the level of production is falling down.
