THE IMAGE OF A RAVEN MOTHER IN JULIA FRANCK?S NOVEL BACK TO BACK AND IN PETER WAWERZINEK?S NOVEL BAD LOVE
Abstract
The contribution focuses on literary phenomenon of bad mother in 21st century novels written by authors born in former GDR. Both selected novels deal with some kind of raven mothers behaviour witnessed by the writer in person or conveyed by close relative of the writer showing how historical events might lead to refusal of the principal womans role being mother. The long-term family as well as society disguised taboo is in the first novel Back to Back by Julia Francks composed only after grandmothers death who acted as raven mother. Peter Wawerzineks novel Bad Love is a part of authors therapy to cope with the traumatic search for lost mother and especially emotionally stirring meeting during which the woman, non-mother, keeps refusing to admit her failure and guilt.
