ICONIC ARCHITECTURAL FORM FOR THE ICONIC SOCIETY

Abstract

The subject of all architectural and urban forms is man, an individual, who is the constituent element of society. Societies create metropolises, residing in them, working and resting. This is why the quality of a society determines, in all probability, all the other qualities that serve these purposes, including the quality of the geographic and social environment. Beauty is induced by a free, self-governing society and makes itself evident in respect towards man by his abiding of the laws that govern it, and at the same time, the respect of society towards his rights as an individual. Physical beauty: that of buildings, the arts and music become an icon, a symbol of the society that creates them and is sensitive to them. Would an iconic architectural form make sense in and of itself? In a world in which societies quickly increase their numbers, the need for developing new and new areas caused by the world's increasing population are only natural. Unfortunately, the price of dynamic development is the fact that less and less attention is being paid to the beauty of urbanised space. Functionality becomes more important than beauty: the provision of the technical functionality of a metropolis, efficient systems of urban engineering, effective mass transport in particular.
