BASIC BELIEFS IN THE CONTEXT OF JOB INSECURITY EXPERIENCE
Abstract
Background. Due to globalization and rapid economic changes the job insecurity is becoming more and more common for the contemporary labor market in most countries. There are many investigations devoted to the consequences of an job insecurity for individual and organization in the international scientific literature. But there is still little research on this theme in the Russian context. So, the aim of our study is to fill this gap. In our previous studies (Chuykova, Sotnikova, 2016); (Chuykova, 2018) we found the consequences of job insecurity in attitude to work as well as in the psychological health of employees. In this article, we describe the effects of job insecurity on a personВ’s basic beliefs about the world. Methods. Our study was conducted in a sample of 70 employees at several medical institutions. Age of the participants varied from 24 to 40 years. Data were collected through questionnaires as follows: Job Security Index (T. Probst, adaptation by A.N. Demin) and Basic Beliefs Scale (R. Janoff-Bulman, adaptation by M.A. Padun, A.V. Kotelnikova), some demographic data has also been collected. Results. As a result, we found a statistically significant negative correlation between the subjectively perceived job insecurity and belief of justice. Other correlations were statistically insignificant. Conclusions. These results allowed us to conclude that the experience of job insecurity is accompanied by a decrease in the perception of justice of the surrounding world and perhaps the emergence of a clear sense of its injustice
