Abstract

The portrait depicts the Romanian musician Cristian Misievici as an innovative, sensitive and intelligent composer as can be seen from his first works, the freshness of the techniques used serving the expression. Concerned with the sonorous time and space, the composer juggles with numerological symbolism and with the capacity of modal structures for metamorphosis. This is reflected in the use of proportions, symmetries and other laws of mathematical origin. The technicality of his language easily succeeds in avoiding hieraticism, his music transcending the concrete. In many of his scores, the symmetry is given the status of general and generalizing principle, encompassing almost all sound parameters: intonation, metric, rhythm, dynamics, structure and form. It becomes a composition concept both in technique and writing. Romanian space is evoked in his music through an entire arsenal of technical means, both traditional and modern, with sound spaces and densities, with sound substances and colors. Score graph (that is extremely minute) and technical means approached give birth to modern musical pages, yet beyond the principles, syntaxes and constructions, the audition provides a sound landscape embedded in Romanian ethos, full of sensitivity, breathing emotion and embodied in authenticity.
