SPA ARCHITECTURE OF KRYNICA-ZDROJ

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the development of spa architecture in Poland on the example of one of the most famous spa town in Poland, Krynica-Zdroj. The town is known not only because of its picturesque location, the richness of the natural environment in natural mineral resources manifesting in numerous healing mineral waters, exploited in this spa, but due to the richness of the forms of resort architecture, accumulated during almost 200 years of Krynica-ZdrojВ’s activity as a health resort, is a very interesting city for research in the field of spa architecture. In Krynica-Zdroj, wooden objects were originally built first, modeled on the Swiss-Tyrolean resort architecture. Later, they built eclectic buildings in the form from the turn of the 19th and 20th century to modernist, magnificent buildings built in Krynica-Zdroj from the 1920's to the 1970's. Observed in the last decade, the trends related to the lifestyle, return to the natural methods of treatment, healthy diet and active ways of spending free time in a clean environment, and have resulted in the number of new investment projects in Krynica-Zdroj and in the neighborhood. Numerous sanatoriums have been renovated and adjusted to the needs of contemporary patients and many recreation facilities aimed at the mass tourism have been erected including sports facilities. Krynica-Zdroj is a unique resort, where you can time using natural methods of treatment and time after balneology treatment, where everyone can spend unforgettable holidays. A favorable climate, valuable monuments and beautiful surroundings, these are the main advantages of this CarpatianВ’s town, which is not only an important health resort, but also a popular tourist center.
