APPEARANCE DISCRIMINATION - MODERN SOCIAL PHENOMENON
Abstract
The article discusses the phenomenon of discrimination based on appearance. Theoretical and experimental work of Russian and foreign researchers devoted to such varieties of discrimination as: lookism, ageism, discrimination based on weight (fat / slim) (weightism), discrimination on the rise (highism) and others, most of them comes from mass media. Provides empirical evidence for studying various aspects of discrimination in appearance. Analyzed interview of 170 women in two age groups: conventionally called "young" (85 people aged 17 to 21 years) and "mature" (85 people aged 30 to 55 years) from South of Russia, to the problem of ageism and lookism. The age differences of ideas about a beautiful woman and the adoption of discrimination were described.
