COMPETENCES OF TEACHERS FOR LABORATORY AND FIELD WORK

Abstract

The realization of laboratory and field work as a specific form of teaching natural science in subjects of physics, chemistry, biology and geography is part of their state educational programs in Slovakia. While physics and chemistry as experimental sciences a laboratory is a central space for practicing and realization of school experiments; for geography, the space is a landscape, in which fieldwork is carried out in various forms (e. g. trip, excursion, opinion survey, mapping, material collection). Both laboratory and field work are used in biology. From the point of view of teacher’s competences, the teacher of these subjects must be prepared to instruct his students through them as well. The aim of the paper is to present examples of activities leading to the development of competences of teacher trainees at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, as well as teachers in practice. The aim of these activities is to make both the groups of educators competent in their teaching career. The paper is methodologically processed on the basis of analysis and synthesis of relevant information of the state educational programs, proposals and carrying own experiments and projects in the field work which are reflected in didactics of the above-mentioned school subjects.
