Abstract

The paper presents results of archaeological excavations lasting 11 seasons, in years 1981-1986 and 2000-2004 by Archaeology Institute of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toru? (Poland). In Strzelno - a tiny town in Kuyavia region (North Poland) - the Premonstratensian nunnery had been functioning from the end of 12th c. to the 19th c. This is the site of a small Romanesque St. Procopius rotunda and Holy Trinity convent basilica with 4 famous Romanesque columns. The main purpose of the research was to determine the oldest settlement, an original plan of churches and monastery in 12-13th c. and a material culture of the nuns. This paper presents results of archaeological excavations of the oldest period of the architecture, the everyday life and death in the Strzelno Premonstratensian claustrum.
