CARLO LEVIS PICTORIAL WORDS: LITERARY AND COGNITIVE MODERNIZING POTENTIAL IN AUTHORS ENVISIONMENT OF THE PAST
Abstract
This paper aims at focusing on cognitive meaning of Carlo LeviВ’s work, based on his evidentiated historiographical, socio-cultural, ethnographic and anthropological interest, with the objective of exploring how the traces of memory, suggesting nostalgic attitude, but also dualistically drawn toward the future, are aspects which substantiate his pictorial search and reflection on art matters. Concomitantly, the purpose is to elucidate compositional elements of literary derivation or those that reflect themselves on the literary field. By putting the accent on the character of LeviВ’s pictorial manner in its iconographical, photographic or architectonic concreteness, which takes place in the interaction between objectivity of the matrix and personal vision, in consonance with features of Post-Impressionism, Expressionism and Realism, maintaining meridionalistic trait as well, it is being analyzed how modernizing tendencies involve recognition of the past, represented in its figurative symbology. It is thus deduced that it can be configured in the form of objects of memory, sometimes minimal, as relics of the past, articulated as an interplay of visual and literary. Since pictorial sense permeates Carlo LeviВ’s essayism and narrativity, intrinsic dichotomy historicity-atemporality is underscored, hence demonstrating in scientifically innovative manner that in such a perspective archetypal mythology, in which is inscribed spiritual connotation, can be impregnated with the idea of the future.
